Vodka Importer

tito-vodka.jpg
Tito’s Vodka. No affiliation with Josip. [original]

I’ve had a lot of help from all of you over the years. In return I’ve decided to start posting some of my million-dollar ideas under the category “Great Business Ideas.” Just think of me fondly when you’re rich and naked and passed out in your own vomit like Anna Nicole Smith. (Not for the squeamish)

* * *

The Idea:
Get exclusive rights to distribute Tito’s Handmade Vodka in Slovenia and the former Yugoslavia.

Why it will work:
Rampant alcoholism + growing “Yugo-nostalgia” = guaranteed hit.

Possible Complications:
Import duties/Dealing with customs

Overall Potential for Success:
High

So with it you can make a whole new range of cocktails, I guess?
    Like:
    “Goli otok”
    (vodka, salt, rock)

    “Jovanka”
(1 part gin, 3 parts vodka, a twist of lime, sprinkle with gold dust)

    “Jože Smole”
(1 part whiskey, 1 part vodka, serve together with a glass of water)

    “Stane Dolanc”
    (vodka and mushrooms)

    “Vis”
    (plain vodka, add an olive)

    “Bobming Belgrade (shooter)”
(100 proof vodka, kahlua, add an ice cube after you’ve set the drink on fire)

I’ve been drinking this stuff after a furious ad campaign Tito’s ran in the New Yorker 5-6 years ago (sad to say that I get my best drinking advice from a literary magazine…still looking for the distributor of authentic absinthe).

I recommend it highly as, apart from having a nice clean taste, the front and back label offers good reading, almost like this label.

As far as Tito’s is concerned, who would have thought a vodka from Texas could be so good.

The only thing I still don’t get. How can a spirit made from corn be called vodka? Isn’t that just plain corn likker?

    ..post scriptum

Since Tito’s is corn-based, just like the “Other” Gasoline, if you’re ever caught on a back road with an empty tank and a bottle of Tito’s you’ll have a major decision to make as regards the act of motion.

Fill your tank or fill the car’s.

I’ve been aware of Tito’s for some time as it’s made in the city where I live, Austin, TX USA. The vodka master is actually named Tito Beveridge (his real name) and his booze is thought of very highly, although I’ve never tried it as I’m not much of a vodka drinker. I’ve thought for a while that it might be a good present for friends in Slovenia, though it might raise a few eyebrows coming through customs. Hey, while you’re at it, try getting the concession rights for Bosnia and Croatia as well. ‘Josip Broz — dober skroz’ would be the obvious advertising slogan for the territory.

Erm, I thought the politician was called “Josip Broz”, not “Jozip Booze”

While I think vodka is poison and utterly worthless, today’s BBC shows it can save lives:

who knew… I hope the guy isn’t an alcho for life (since he was ready to check out on his own…)

I like the drink recipes too. Never tried Tito’s Vodka, not much of a vodka drinker, I only used it to make that blue berry schnapps stuff, which by the way was a HUGE hit with many of my friends.
I also did rose infused vodka. White roses make the BEST rose infused vodka by the way, and if you hate drinking it, it’s not bad as a facial cleanser or a flavor enhancer for deserts.
Here in BiH, I haven’t gone into production on many of my home-made things, no room or facilities for all that here. I thought I was doing very well to manage to obtain duty free Irish Mist and duty free Jamesons on the direct flight from Dublin to Dubrovnik, which is a great flight, a wonderful exercise in cultural contrast and I loved that the safety information was given in three languages, Irish, Croatian and English! It was worth the price of admission just to have THAT experience!
Irish whiskey is hard to get here, you can get Guiness in one of the pubs in the Old City. I haven’t been there though, I don’t go alone to drinking establishments here, and WHY when if I want I can go down the road and get all the Sarajevsko I want?
