Say it Ain’t So, Intereuropa

intereuropa-screenshot.jpg
Intereuropa disgraces itself with its lousy map.

One could perhaps forgive a foreign company for messing up a map of Slovenia. But what about a Slovenian one? Yes, my friends, it’s true. The ultimate disgrace in mapmaking is upon us. The Slovenian logistics company Intereuropa (one of the biggest companies in the country) boasts a map of Slovenia on its homepage that wrongly includes Croatian Istria and is missing the “chicken head” by Hungary.

To add insult to injury: some hackers managed to deface part of the site. I think it’s since been fixed, but previously clicking on “Slovenija” led you to some quasi-literate “Bush is teh sux, Turkey rulez!” page.

It’s a dark day in mix-up history.

(Thanks David!)

It figures. Wishful thinking of a brainless creature.

In all fairness, I don’t think the chicken’s been beheaded, but has rather been given a crop swallowing down Zagreb.

Outsourcing gone bad, IMO. The rest of the European countries seem alright enough, only the inter-ex-Yugoslavia borders are iffy.

Also, Bosnia is huge on that map…

    Long live Big Slovenia!
Perhaps the COE of Intereuropa as a former(?) spy knows more?

If memory serves me, Slavoj Žižek proposed we should swap Prekmurje for Istria years ago in an article for Mladina. So this might be a Lacanian plot?

He did that? Damn… and I thought that I was original with my idea of swapping Štajerska for Istria (relocating Manskies to Ljubljana, of course ;) and declaring Prekmurje an independent country

But I agree with Cornelious - outsorcing gone awry…. Just one more reason to form a Society for righting the geographical wrongs :)

If anyone is curious, here’s a screenshot of the defaced page, featuring Bush photoshopped as Ronald McDonald.

And David is all over the situation.

Any scenarios as to why they targeted Intereuropa? Other than the obvious lame security? Give me your best conspiracy theory :-)

It must have something to do with Turkey’s aspiration to join the EU… You know - Inter-Europa :D

What about the company’s name, does that sound correct? Doesn’t inter mean between, and since there’s only one Europe …

    The Devil’s Advocate here.
If you click on the individual countries on the map of Europe the true geographical image of the country will come up.
So, in the big picture, Slovenia has taken over Istria. In the smaller picture, Istria’s still hanging, by a thread, to Croatia.
Remember that God’s in the details, or is it the Devil? Either way, God spends his summer holidays in Croatia’s Istria.
