—> Žižek the Talking Machine
A hilarious interview of the famous Slovenian philosopher by a clearly clueless host. [In English]
—> The Top Ten Wealthiest Slovenes
Mirko TuÅ¡ (of retailer TuÅ¡) tops the list. Still: If you add up the top ten and multiply the number by 20, you still don’t get even half of Bill Gates’ fortune.
—> Ryanair Finally Lands in Slovenia
The world’s least-liked airline will touch down in Maribor this June.
—> VeÄ?er and Me
Baya wrote something for the newspaper VeÄ?er but was shocked by the crude caricature they made of her to go along with the story. Or is it all in her mind?

Funny, people still complain even when stuff is dirt cheap or free. But in the end you get what you pay for!
Oh well, they can always come to the U.S. were you can pay 2-3-4 times as much as well as have the accompanying crappy service. And look you have about a dozen crappy carriers to choose from.
Good news for me though…hopefully they will fly into Brnik eventually. Once I get all my pilot licenses I’ll have 2 airlines I could possibly work for and be based in Slovenia.
Re: caricature: Besides the fact that the caricature completely misses the point (or - another option - is an inside joke, uknown to most readers), I see no problem about it. Adam and Eve were more often than not pictured naked. That’s what you are in paradise - naked.
I can understand Baya’s shock, but - seriously - is it that bad? It’s not as if this is another case of Jyllands Posten
Personally, I’d find it amusing if I were labeled the “original”, as Adam and Eve were
Michael N: I think Wizzair is also opening up a Ljubljana-London route this summer. So that means there will be 3 budget airlines here plus the national carrier and, I think, a few more. Your odds will definitely be increasing this year.
peng: The caricature really rubbed me the wrong way. I left a comment on baya’s blog that sums up my ideas. But basically, I agree with you that the fundamental problem is that it misses the point.
Yes, I read your comment - and if you look at it from that perspective I’d agree… But then again - maybe Apple should sue VeÄ?er, because it’s logo is depicted as the forbidden fruit… It looks as if the “artist” was short on ideas
BTW: do you have new software over there at RSI? Or just technicians with hair-trigger fingers?
Yup, new software is rolling out across RTV. We started today, and Ljubljana will follow shortly thereafter. So don’t be surprised if you hear any glitches on the national programs in the near future.
Actually, I though it was cool. It caught my attention and made me listen closesly. That’s what you want with a radio programme, right?
Michaels M & N: WizzAir (great name, no?) already has a Brussels-Charleroi flight from Brnik. Last year they also had a London-Luton flight, that’s apparently since been tossed aside.
The world might hate Ryanair but I’m lovin’ “tell it like it is” Michael O’Leary!
What about Baya’s boyfriend of two years? He proudly published the caricature (My girlfriend is famous) on his blog without the slightest sign of outrage, shame (what’s that????) or even the garden variety of jealousy at what the picture implies. He is an educated individual, so I assume he does understand what the picture implies. Is this what you call love?
My experience of Slovenia has been largely positive - lovely scenery, friendly, gentle, hospitable people, but there are certain things about Slovenia and Slovenians I’ll never understand!
Michael M.: You are not alone in being too prudish for this country, I’ll give you company.
Pirano: Yup, I was going to mention that. I knew Wizzair was already flying to Slovenia since last year, I just couldn’t remember what the route was, I was thinking London.
And honestly I don’t really see why many people complain about Ryanair.
For their prices it’s a deal. I guess that’s why they are still one of the best profit-making airlines around. Even though they may be the most disliked airline, most people despite their less than wonderful customer service won’t pass on their great prices.
But I can understand the complaint about impolite flight attendents, but for myself I really could care less. Most of the flights in Europe, are 2 hours or less. So really what do I need the flight attendent to do for me. I guess if you want food, or something to drink, but the flight is almost too short to make it matter…plus it’s airplane food! Do your really want to eat that stuff?
All I really care about is getting to my destination on time, and for a good price.
Is anybody here from ‘Lubezana’?
What a bad representation of Slovenia, that philosopher looks more like a serbian orthodox priest.
Actually, having all my orifices checked in the airport is humiliating enough for not caring about the flight itself.
In any case nowadays you book a seat in a “expensive” flight and makes no difference, anyways they put you in a “regional/partner” company with planes you don’t fit in, specially if the girl in front of you feels like in the beach and tries to defy physics’ laws by trying to go through your knees with her seat.
And food… only a pair of companies nowadays do give you a miser bag of peanuts or a “cold dinner” you spend an hour trying to figure out what is it made of. The rest have already joined the pay-per-drink latest fashion.
So, for the one hour and a half most of my flights take, I prefer to spend the extra 100/200 bucks in something more decent, after I touch and kiss the ground.
I still don’t get the caricature for more than I read it, (apart of it not matching the text). Specially the nice notes at the bottom.
But yet, I don’t know what prudish is.
there is a one hour docu bout zizek, by the same name and that thing is insane. i fell in love a bit while watching..
Michael M: If my calendar is correct… Happy birthday, man!
If pengovsky is right- happy birthday Michael! I wish you all the best!
Regarding my caricature- I spoke to the author of it and he explained what he had in mind. He said that he portrayed Domen and me like that, because we are a couple and we work together on E-demokracija.si. He also said, he had another idea of putting us in the time of ancient Greece. So there you have it.
Even with explanation, I disagree with it. It’s totally off the point, what I wrote about has nothing to do with naked butts. Still, that’s in the past. Or so I tell myself :-D.
And about Domen’s reaction to the caricature…he was proud of me writing the article. We both knew I had nothing to do with the caricature, and others were to see that as well. I was angry about it. Domen wasn’t. We don’t always agree on things, you know. Who does…only those who lie to each other do.
Happy birthday Michael! May your children be healthy, your love blossoming, your job easy and your blog successful.
*kiss, kiss, kiss*
