The impossibly beautiful SoÄ?a River in Slovenia. (source)
It looks like the sequel to the Christian allegorical film The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, will be partly filmed in Slovenia. A crew will arrive here this summer to shoot scenes from Prince Caspian in the spectacular SoÄ?a Valley. It’s an amazing place, and certainly an appropriate backdrop for a fantasy film.
The first film got generally positive reviews and made a ton of money, so I’m guessing this one will do alright as well. And that means a lot of great publicity for Slovenia. The film probably won’t do what Lord of the Rings did for New Zealand (or did it?) but it’s still better than nothing.

It’s like the last James Bond movie - at least in my office suddenly everybody knows that Montenegro exists and “gosh, is that beautiful, is that really Montenegro?”. Now folks actually have to move their butts and GO there.
The only problem is that most of the scenery in the latest Bond flick is actually Checz Republic
The hotel they filmed in, however, is indeed named Montenegro
I’ve been diligently avoiding Narnia (for a self-invented reason: a real LOTR fan doesn’t want to watch or read Narnia), but now it seems the defence (or was it pretence?) will have to be given up… For a Prince in Slovenia. Good.
Will they include any signs “this is Slovenia” on any of the photogenic rocks near SoÄ?a? Because I’m afraid people will miss those few shots otherwise.
I suugest the local extras wear T-shirts with “I fell Slovenia” logo
I suggest they include the local extras in the movie then.
Otherwise it won’t help us to not be “Slovakia”.
KuÄ?an could drafted in to play a dwarf, I’m sure.
And a red cap for KuÄ?an, no doubt… Just make shure he doesn’t drown…
Hm, maybe a T-shirt saying: “Did you say Slovakia?!!” to be carried by some of the rather martial protagonists would be enough?

Maybe the rejected CNN commerical for Slovenia: “Don’t come here…” would also do the trick
I hope they hire local extras too, they should make sure to have lots of local horses and such as well. Maybe some of those lovely old peasant houses.
A version of Dune got filmed in Czechoslovakia, (BEFORE the Velvet Divorce so don’t jump all over me!) and they had lots of local extras with their eyes made to look like ’spice addicts’ it was great. I halfway understood some of what they were saying which only made things more amusing.
I’m sure that Upper SoÄ?a dialect around Bovec and Tolmin sounds like a language from the Netherworld to an untrained ear
As long as they don’t blow up the surroundings like they did for Cliffhanger, put concrete roads in the woods like they did for Dead Man’s Chest, or leave any other permanent “souvenirs” there
Sorry to be a spoilsport, pengovsky, but the hotel you are talking about is Grandhotel Pupp in Karlovy Vary. I also wanted to say something mildly amusing about C.S. Lewis, but find his Church of Ireland - atheism - Church of England conversions very tiresome.
Am not really sure that’s really that positive… who of the audience really cares where it was filmed. I loved Brokeback Mountain but will not go to Canada because of that, will I? Or Wyoming for that matter…
wyoming… hmm. at least in slovenia they wont hang you from a tree… (unless you are a gypsy)
Michael; its like the great Slovenian Movie ‘Spare Parts” it was filmed in the beautiful and magical Krsko!
In new zealand, lots of people came to visit the beautiful landscape they saw in ‘Lords of the rings’… when the film’s crew had interviews, they always emphasized on landscapes, on pure new zealand.. Of course NZ Tourism Organisation, Air New Zealand were partners/sponsors and were there to sell NZ as a touristic destination.. In Bollywood movie, lots of scenery are shot in switzerland, Indians fly now to Switzerland to visit where Rudy kissed and danced with Samsara.
