An allegedly forbidden Croatian music video.

This *must* be by Vatrogasci, no…?

Where’s it been banned from, exactly - or would the short answer be ‘everywhere’? :)

It’s not banned, that’s just a rumour. These guys are making fun of Croatian nationalists. The said nationalists might offer a reward on the authors’ heads, though :-)

That’s hilarious! Thank goodness I’m old enough that I grew up surrounded by srpsko-hrvatski.

ROTFLMAO!!! We need an American version!
It does look sort of like a typical Thompson video!

I take it that the song is about the EU seducing Croatia away from aggressive nationalism, but I’d appreciate it if someone could translate or summarise the lyrics.

Incidentally, I’m pretty sure that the derelict buildings in the video are at Beckton gasworks in east London, which was used as a ruined Vietnamese city in Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket. It seems odd for Croatians to film mock war ruins in London when they have real ones at home, but perhaps they wanted to make an allusion to Full Metal Jacket.

It’s more likely that they took the scenes from Full Metal Jacket and edited/composited them a bit as a cost cutting measure (all those background explosions would break a video’s budget quite easily).

As far as the lyrics go, they mostly recount the story so far wrt Croatia joining the EU thru that little courting thing. Essentialy, it makes fun of both the supporters and opposition to Croatia joining the EU and attitudes and stereotypes present with both those viewpoints.

If those shots are composites, they’re very good ones. :)

I tried to comment yesterday and something went wrong, I like the resemblence to a typical Thompson video!
As far as war ruins go, it depends how you want to use them, a lot are still boobied! So using some other place isn’t a bad idea as long as it LOOKS right, this isn’t a documentary!

Looking at it more criticly, those are definatly composits. Check out when the exploding background first shows up. there is an obvious loop a couple of seconds in.

Agreed that they made them quite well. Without watching specificly for loops/errors in compositing I wouldn’t have (and haven’t) noticed, altough I guessed as much do to budget constraints.

    This video is hilarious.

My only regret is that this level of political incorrectness would be frowned upon in Slovenia. We’re just too boring for something like this.
