Pravda nima prav

pravda screenshot.jpg
Pravda means "the truth", or in this case "the untruth."

Let’s all give a warm ПоздравлÑ?ÑŽ (congratulations) to the Russian online news service Pravda, which recently conflated Slovakia and Slovenia in their story about Slovakia’s parliamentary elections. Despite the fact that the story itself contains three iterations of Slovakia, they still slapped the Slovenian flag on it and headlined it under Slovenia. You can see the Pravda story, in all its folly, here.

For a much better look at the Slovak elections, you can always take a look at Lemuel’s pre-election trilogy. And the many angry posts that followed it.

(Thanks Boštjan!

That’s just a stream of curse words, isn’t it?

Heh. It is in Pravda, so it has to be true! Anyway, welcome back!

@Michael M: :) I’m afraid not. It actually says: “Not Russia nor Pravda are what they used to be”. Russian swear words are surprisingly simmilar to Slovene swear words and I’m sure your decency filter would pick them up. But just to give you and example: Мать йебёна! (it is simmilar to what Marco Materazzi would have said to Zizou if any of them would speak Russian:))

Or as they used to say, “There’s no “truth” in Pravda and no “news” in Izvestia.”

On a similar note, I was looking at a Smithsonian Institution tour catalog and there’s a Danube river cruise that’s going to Australia, Hungary, Germany and the Czech Republic…

That’s nothing, Hugh. A British guidebook to Slovenia and Croatia, or at least its blurb, warmly recommends a visit to Lake Baikal: "Not far from the city [of Ljubljana] is idyllic Lake Baikal, where Agatha Christie once vacationed to escape from the paparazzi of the time."LINK

Majkl’s back, yay!WWU (formerly AZ2SI), other than the lake Baikal thing, I loved this line: “[Ljubljana] is so unspoiled that there aren’t even any buses from the airport yet”… Talk about describing a harsh reality in diplomatic terms… (not to mention that there *are* buses from the airport.

Cripes, WWU, I don’t think it gets any worse than that.

(And it’s nice to see you blogging, by the way!)

Heh regular readers of notice regular economies of ‘truth’ as well as mistakes of that kind….

Dont get started on the swear words!

Yeah, but Pravda is one of the few news sources that gets things right 99% of the time. For instance, I was just bouncing around that link to Pravda and found this - english.pravda.ru/news/world/08-08-2006/83814-state-0

We’re all safer now knowing that someone has called attention to those damn Indian doctors and their damn makeup choices.
