My computer still hasn’t arrived, but I now have access to one. I’ve already broken the comments section, so please don’t try commenting. I’m trying to fix it.

UPDATE: I’ve called on the big guns, and they’re suggesting that carniola make the move over to wordpress. This should fix the commenting bugs once and for all. Apologies in the meantime!

Also: it seems that my computer has been bouncing back and forth between Slovenia and Austria, ping-pong style. On the first occasion, I wasn’t home so — instead of leaving a note for me to come pick it up or something – they sent it back to Austria. The second time, they got the address wrong and sent it back again. It’s now apparently on its third trip here. We’ll see if it makes it.

Pingpong? You will turn on your computer and it will go BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP and the screen will be dark.

Or something similar. Happens all the time. Because graphics card can ‘jump out’ of its slot on the motherboard. Or your memory.

If you have on board graphics card, you’re basically safe. ;)

I’m curious to hear the computer’s point of view on all this when it finally arrives back home. I wonder what stories it has to tell, what strange experiences it has gone through and how that affected its personal growth :P. In the mean time : welcome back Majkl!

There must be some border disputes between Austria & Slovenia that have not been mentioned that constitute the sticky wicket of your computer delivery dilemna.

I still say it’s DHL, Dead Head Lounging, that’s behind all your troubles…“Mike’s not here, Man!

I hope you get things going, because I’d love your take on the dynamics of going Eurozone (saw something on last night’s news)…you NATO and EU slave, you! ;)

Why do my comments keep being "denied for inappropriate content"? And in that whorehouse red font that makes me feel all dirty like Christina Aguillera in "Moulin Rouge"? Why? Why?

@Vaara: Not having guests at the registry ceremony? Why not? Why bother on legislate about guests? :-)

I’m more concerned about the “former Soviet satellite state”…. :)

Huh indeed. That article is wrong on so many points it’s verging on ridiculous. No guests? Which local radio again? Which LGBT groups endorsed the law again? And yes, former Soviet bloc? Huh? I always supposed gay people were more concerned about eachother and their common cause and would research a bit more for something like this article…

Indeed. However, granting gays the right to officially live together and recognize their rights as such is still a step in the right direction, regardless of all the mistakes in the news post, methinks…

@Arf: Depends on one’s point of view. Given the fact that gay couples have virtually NO rights compared to their heterosexual counterparts (such as inheriting partner’s pension or indeed automatically becoming a benefitiary if the other partner dies, able to take sick-leave to take care of the other partner, etc…), one could argue that the sole purpose of the law was to register (in the strictest sence of the word) all gay couples in Slovenia, making a first step towards sexual profiling. Just imagine a gay person applying for a job in a government institution (or a school)… The clerk who’s processing the application sees the “same-sex union” check-box is ticked and he/she replies: “sorry, all the positions are filled right now”. This law is definitelly too little too late and is actually making government harrasment possible, methinks…

Mmmm… Valid point, Pengovsky. I hadn’t looked at it that way. If that’s the sole purpose for this bill to pass, then it’s more a step backwards than a (small) progression. It may be too little, but let’s hope it isn’t too late, though…

The job surveyors have no business puting marital status check-box in their applications. One can always grab such paper from the desk and take it to the police.

by auspuh on July 28, 2006 at 7:17 am

@auspuh: Of course they have no business putting such a check-box into applications. That don’t mean that they don’t do it, however. Point is: if a database exists, someone will make use of it. Such a database makes it possible to discriminate people according to their sexual orientation, without giving anything in return.
