If you can spare 60 seconds, please take a look at this: the first official Glory of Carniola questionnaire. It will help me figure out who’s reading this, and what kind of things they’d like to see in the future.
Thanks in advance and have a great weekend!
UPDATE: The results are in!

Michael, you are mising the “Word of mouth” option in question #4. I learned about Carniola from an expat englishman, who was telling me about your first post about the slovenian language, with the picture of a young boy with his face twisted in horror, and your post about clerks in stores allways nagging if you don’t have change. Calling the 10000 sit note “The purple monster” was amusing enough to keep me coming back to carniola until i got hooked.
How about a multiple choice option in question 3? Some of us have lived there, but we also have family and friends there. So just in case one should have possibility to click on more than one answer.
First two questions should have multiple choice answers for the nomads like me.
I second rox! Altough I came to your site via another blog, I’ve told countless people about it since then… So “word of mouth” option should be there.
I’d like to see more naked women on the website, but not Natalija anymore!
An interesting question I would like to know is how many 1st or 2nd generation Slovenian are from the U.S who sign in? Michael; Interested to know are you still enjoying life in Slovenia? Or do you indent to move back to the U.S?
I’d love to see your commentary on working over there. I know that may be touchy, but your take would be a hoot. Other than that, forward in all directions.
I’d like to see more naked men, and I’d like to know why my comment on Iraq a week or so ago wasn’t posted.
Correction: I see now from the archives that my comment WAS posted. I think only with some delay, though, since I checked back several times in the following days and didn’t see it. So probably no one else did either.
I’d still like to see more naked men, and maybe a Slovenia’s hottest male blogger contest. I can live without Natalija Verboten, and I couldn’t submit the questionnaire because you didn’t offer a choice I could agree with on the Natalija Verboten question.
More cowbell!
For question 3, I could have selected any of the first three of options..
I concur with the "hey, we need a multiple choice option on question 3" comment. And I especially concur with Jean’s “we need more naked men” comment. Especially since you forced me to answer untruthfully regarding Ms. Verboten, about whom we have been subjected to endless viewing and spewing over the past years…the women need a Voice! Go, Jean, go! I’m with you. I was also going to say that you should add a section about Slovene food - but WAIT!! That is such a good idea that I am taking it for myself, especially soup, which I loooove, and Slovenia seems to have so many great ones. If anybody wants to contribute now so I can get a head start, you have my email. Yay! A food blog! Oooh - I can hardly wait to start up my test kitchen!! PS: If you are a Natalija fan and happen to have a killer recipe for jota or something, please disregard my earlier comments. I simply adore that woman. Really. I cannot get enough.
I’m quite interested in the outcome of the questionnaire.
That 8th question is so frustrating.
Thanks again everyone! There have been a ton of responses so far — I’ll post the results on Monday.I agree with ka-ma and others that I should’ve allowed for more options on number 3. Unfortunately you can’t change anything once the survey goes into motion without breaking the Matrix. And Jean: Apologies for the delay. Any comment with more than 5 outbound links gets automatically flagged as potential spam and withheld. At least, that’s what the CIA told me to tell you.
I shoudl mention that my Slovenian connection is that one of my Tvrtkovic ancestresses was married to one of the Counts of Celje. So that’s my Slovenian family, I hve never actually visited Slovenija however I have been in a plane that overflew Slovenia, twice. It looked lovely down there, all snowy and stuff.
@Katja: we just might be related. Apparently the family on my father’s side was somehow connected to Counts of Celje - I think it had something to do with an ilegitimate son of the last count of Celje or something
Yes probably we are related Pengovsky! The last Count of Celje was Ulrich II, he was murdered by Hunyadi in Belgrade. He indeed did have a ‘natural’ son.
Count Herman I married in 1361 the daughter of Stephen II Kotromanic, the Ban (sovereign) of Bosnia. Their children were Hans († 1372) and Herman II († 1435). The last was the most important representative of the Celje stock. His consort was Countess Anna of Schaunburg (in Upper Austria). Their children were Ludovic († 1417), Elisabeth († 1400), married to Henry of Goerz; Frederic II († 1454), married to Elisabeth of Frangipani in first, and with Veronica of Desenice in second law († 1425); further Anna († 1465), married with Nicola II Gorjanski; Herman III († 1426), married with Elisabeth, Countess of Abensberg (Upper Austria) in first, and with Beatrix, daughter of the Bavarian duke Ernst, in second law. Another daughter of Herman II, Barbara of Celje († 1451) pertains to the most important historical personalities in Slovenian history. She was married to Sigmund of Luxemburg, King of Hungary (later of Germany, of Bohemia, of Italy) and Emperor. Herman II’ natural son was Herman († 1421), Bishop of Freising (1412) and then of Trento.

scroll down to that information and you’ll see a wierdly American looking coat of arms.
I’m related to the Counts of Celje on my late mother’s side.
Katja: And all this time I thought you were joking when you called yourself "Queen Katarina."
Goerz of course being Gorica: I will have to insist on that.
@ Luka Queen or Comrade take your pick, I’m a Socialist Monarchist!
OH for an EDIT button! I meant @ Micheal M!
