Shipping in the Adriatic

shipping in the adriatic.jpg
Click to see a live page.

With summer slowly approaching, and all minds turning to the Adriatic, here’s a neat tool that tracks ships around the world so that you can see what’s happening in the Adriatic right now.

It’s missing a lot, but still worth a visit. If you prefer seeing the sea itself, this webcam in Croatia is set on the Adriatic. There’s also a neat day-in-fast-forward. I tried finding a Slovenia-based coastal camera, but only turned up this one in Izola, which is busted.

Oh well. Enjoy your weekend!

Google Earth also provides very nice views, for example of Piran (I have yet to try the other possibilities).

    it isn’t the seaside, but…

here’s a few select live feeds from traffic cameras. not exactly the most exciting abuse of your internet connection, but i suppose it could be handy in a few given situations… or you could stare at the pixelated display if you feel homesick, i suppose…

edit: well, the page i linked to above has had some upgrades done since i last checked it. it now includes a best route calculator for any two given towns inside slovenia, including a road map, distances, estimated time and costs. a pretty nifty tool, unfortunately only in slovene. it’s the two textboxes on the bottom of the page, the green being your starting point and the red the goal.
