Today is a national holiday commemorating Slovenian resistance to fascist occupation. It’s hard to imagine what this country would look like had that fight been lost. I suppose it wouldn’t even be a country at all; just a memory.

The Slovenia Times recently published an article about the little-known Battle of Dražgoše, the first head-on collision between the German army and Slovenes in World War 2. It’s an interesting story that was entirely new to me.

Have a good holiday.
