Who wants to be a Croatian millioniare?

Like every country on Earth, Croatia has a version of Who wants to be a millionaire? In the above clip, you will see a man competing for one million kunas on the show. You will also see him spectacularly crash and burn on the first question, which is: "Which of the following is not checked during automobile inspections?" His choices are:

a) proper tires
b) exhaust
c) proper brakes
d) the cleanliness of the ashtray

The contestant, with much bravado, picks "B" and insists that it is his final answer. I won’t insult your intelligence by telling you which is the right answer — but pay attention to the man’s face when his folly is revealed. His quiet reaction is almost painful to watch. He tightens his lips for a second, then hoists himself up and leaves. We’re left to guess at what horrible anguish and self-flagellations he’s due to suffer once outside the studio. Ugh.

Related: A highlight from the Serbian version of the show. Two years later that picture still makes me smile.

And somewhat related: the Slovenian version of the show was once hosted by popular TV-personality-turned-blogger Jonas, who recently appeared on the TV show Studio City (together with the lovely Mojca Mavec and grouchy Marko CrnkoviÄ?) to talk about blogging in Slovenia. You can watch the show (in real format) here. Or you can enjoy a picture of the participants, apparently high on post-show meth, here.

(Thanks for the tip, Politburo!)
