Here’s the ultimate example of Freud’s parapraxis, or Freudian slip. This newscast, aired shortly before the disintegration of Yugoslavia, is about some of the European reactions to the escalating problems. For example, the second slide says: Austrija pojaÄ?ava vojne jedinice na granici sa Slovenijom. (Austria has sent army units to the border with Slovenia)
The third slide is where it gets interesting. It reads: EEZ izražava zabrinutost zbog sranja u Jugoslaviji. (The EU, in a special report, expresses its concern about the shit in Yugoslavia.) The host stumbles over the word "sranja" and then explains:
"I’m sorry, that’s a mistake. It should be the stanja ("state") of Yugoslavia." He then adds: "Although what’s written is not completely wrong. I do apologize, but you’ll have to decide on your own if it was intentional or not."

"Austria has sent army units to the border with Slovenia" Sorry, I have been watching the Oscars and maybe I don’t have a clear mind yet, but I don’t see anything wrong with that statement. Austria did in fact send a few troops to the border because of the paranoic Austrians.
Nothing’s wrong with the statement at all. I just wanted to give non-Serbian speakers an idea of what the report was talking about.
Nothing wrong with Austria statement, but check the next scene with EU flag on the right side of the screen. See anything unusual? Well there was stanje sranja I guess.
Does anybody remember Andrej Stare’s 1984 olympic "hitrostno drkanje" from TV news? And it was also only one letter wrong ;) (michael, i leave you with the translation hehe)I have to admit, the video above is perfect. It tells everything about the situation in ex-YU in 1991…
Whoa… that must have been aired veryvery close to the end. I’d reckon 1990. I can’t imagine that reporter getting away with a remark he made at the end during the hard core totalitarian regime. He’d at least lose his job. If not his entire urogenitally system.
sorry too busy laughing!
Glad you like it. I just couldn’t stop laughing when I saw it for the first time.
A classic Freudian slip. It would be funny if it weren’t so damn sad and true.
I would say this was an intentional mistake.. And "svaka Ä?ast" to the man!
Matty: actually, if you check the SSKJ for the word drkati, you will find this:1. veÄ?krat zdrsniti, zdrkniti: potne kapljice so mu drkale po Ä?elu2. drsati se: gledala je, kako fantje drkajo po ledu; otroci so se hodili na potok drkat Yes, i know the word is marked as "arhaic" (zastarela), but i guess Stare wasn’t all that wrong :) (i wonder if his surname has anything to do with him using arhaic words)Don’t get me wrong, i still find the term "hitrostno drkanje" hilarious :)
Sometime fate is really interesting : the day I feel bad about the old yugoslavia is the day that this thema is being published.I guess that what happened in Yugoslavia was really a shit : after all normal people are just people, they don’t want to see there family hurt or there cattles (for the farmers) destroyed…What can we do now when it has been 16 years (wow allready !) since the red star is not on the flag anymore…
If you look at the keyboard the keys R and T are next to each other. So it may have been unintentional.
glory would like to kno if there is reall shit in yugolsavia because you said there was and there really isnt on this website
