A small part of my grotesquely large blacklist.
Since 1978, spammers have been making the internet annoying for everyone but the galactically stupid. It’s a bit like the doctrine of original sin: everyone online has to collectively suffer because of the gullibility of a few.
To date, this site has gotten 11,086 comment spams. That’s about 33 a day. Approximately none of them have successfully made it onto the page. That means a failure rate of 100%. But even if one of them somehow slipped through, which is unlikely, there are additional safeguards in place. It’s like one of my favorite Kafka stories, Before the Law.
At any rate, I’m happy to see that Slovenes have also been coming up with some interesting ideas. Spamfighter is one of them, at least when it comes to e-mail harvesters. As the site explains:
Each time a spambot (a computer program that will search the internet for emails) comes to this site it will go in a continuous loop and get millions of fake email addresses in it’s database!
How can you help? Any link from any website, forum or blog will render the email harvester useless giving it billions of fake emails. By linking it from your site you are increasing the probability that every spambot will get clogged . Every link helps!
I don’t know if it works, but I like the idea. Best of luck to them!
