Death by Banana

banana.gif
A police sketch of the perpetrator.

A Slovenian woman living in Australia was recently killed by a banana. Of all the ways to die, this must certainly be the oddest. And it didn’t even happen the way you probably imagine it: slipping cartoon-style on the peel…

She seems to have taken it with a sense of humor, though. And judging by the story, she was a fascinating and interesting woman by any measure. Requiescat in pace.

(Thanks Matt!

Well, I guess, it still is better to get killed by a banana than by a pretsel…..Right, Mr. Bush? :)

i must say i was a tad bit surprised to find that they acknowledge the existence of the kranjska klobasa down under. not too surprised to see it spelled funny and attributed to germany, though…

Let us praise Ms. Perko, who was killed by a snaky foreign banana.
It seems like the Aussie Slovenes have took a good sense
of  humor with them upon leaving. They took so many, so now sometimes it even comes
short back in Slo. Did you know that almost one third of the population
    left Slovenia after WW2?

I checked out the link to the news. What a nice, moving story. The woman was a hero: "Ms Perko was known for her protests against the famous Kransky sausage being advertised as a Polish or German product, when in fact it is Slovenian"May God guard your big Slovenian soul, Ivanka.

"Did you know that almost one third of the population left Slovenia after WW2?"Dragan, I think you’re exaggerating. Counting the whole period 1945-1990, it’s around 1/10th of the population. (Around 1/7th if we count ethnic Germans and Italians, too.)

Luka, in the SFRJ time the emigrants theme was excluded out of the
history, it was merely marginally mentioned. But concerning the total
number of emigrants this was a true nation divide. If you just
consider the official count of emigrants in Canada, South Americas
& Australia today, then the total of Slovenes in 1945 must be about
    3-4 millions.

Dragan: I agree, long live the emigrants! I’m just saying there’s no need to exaggerate with the numbers. We’re still not Ireland, Armenia or Lithuania. BTW, I reccomend JanÄ?ar’s essay "Slovenski eksil". It’s a great reflection on emmigration and alienation of Slovenians. I even think there’s an English translation somewhere.Michael: is the eagle’s shadow a new element, or have I just not noticed it before? Anyway, I like it. The Blue Eagle of Carniola…

Is it an eagle in one of the banners? I did recently put in a new batch of rotating banners. I quite like them, although I should mention that all the photos are by her excellency Nathalie. My photography skills are nonexistent.

What an interesting woman!Luka: Pardon my ignorance, but… What shadow? What eagle?

         by AZ2SI on January 23, 2006 at 9:10 pm

AZ2SI: The Eagle of Carniola casts its magnificent shadow on the upper banner for a few seconds… :)

There defintely is a iron eagle in the rotating banner slideshow.
And I also have a sheep peacefully browsing on top left ;) Usually I’m
so content driven that I don’t see these gimmickery, although they
eventually would deserve a closer look. I really enjoy to see how
gimmicks & content keep in good balance at TGoC.
Note for AZ2SI: beware of that woman, she’s a flasher ;)

Luka: Are you referring to the Carniolan eagle in the photos of Kranj? I don’t see it casting a shadow– or did you mean that the whole thing is like a shadow?Dragan: Who? Are you trying to confuse me or are you talking in some sort of a code? ;)

         by AZ2SI on January 23, 2006 at 10:56 pm

  • 14

AZ2SI: her name is Nathalie Lawhead, and yes, this is sorts of code, actually the output of Macromedia Director.I
don’t know about Luka’ screen settings, but the eagle in the banner is
definitely iron covered with some snow. An awesome winter-nighphoto
    btw.

So this women managed to "survive brutal
communist regime" and was finally free to die in a country that lacks
enough social security for her to be healed by a banana wound? Am I
    missing something here?

Who died on a bannana, Nathalie? So sad :( You knew her!? MY GOD! Does the eagle have to do with any of this?! Nice banner, Ivanka. :)

Tanja: I can assure you the eagle has nothing to do with Ivanka’s death (unless new prove arrises).I think the eagle is in fact made from iron, yet casting the shadow. And it is the eagle of Carniola (which is blue when in the comfort of its shield).
