Slovakia’s Triglav

slovakia triglav.jpg
Left: Slovenia’s official coat of arms.
Right: The official logo of Slovakia Network.

You know, sometimes it feels like a supernatural force is keeping the Slovenia-Slovakia mix-up alive. And I think it’s having a blast, too.

A quick google search reveals that the logo was designed by Grand Rapids-based LOGOTYPE.COM. Who wants to bet that the designer mistakenly consulted the Slovenian flag when he/she was given the task of designing a logo for a Slovak site?BTW, the Slovak flag also has three peaks in its coat-of-arms, but they look completely different.

Oh, and if you make a part of the Slovakia Netowrk logo green, you get something a closely resembling Slovenia’s Trigi sports mascot (or at least his hair).

OMG, they copied Triglav! Those bastards… Seems like the big mix-up is as sure to re-occur as Kenny’s death.

OK, this is getting bizzare… I mean at least the people of Slovakia network should be avare of the SLO/SVK mixup and decide against such a logo when the designer made it. Then there is also the conspiracy theory: Somewhere deep below Bratislava there is a "secure location" with top ten Slovak brains working 24/7 figuring out how to "piggyback" on Slovenia’s symbols, making sure the unsuspecting public will say "Ah, Slovakia - Ljubljana, Triglav, nice girls, cheap beer".

Mooooost probable. I know. I have family working for graphic designers. I can say no more…

Okay, I’d understand the theory of a graphic designer being stupid, but it’s beyond reason how Slovakian Network people couldn’t notice the potential mix-up here. Or maybe… just maybe… they’re not aware of this particular Slovenian symbol? :P

    HANDS OFF TRIGLAV!!!!!

Slovenia and Slovakia have their own mt. Triglav and none of them has three peaks. Both mountains have been named after a Slavic god. Quite a number of three-headed figures representing the divinity have been found in both regions.

Resputin: I don’t think Slovakia has a mountain named Triglav. I did a Google search of Triglav (and even Trihlav, as the word could, I suppose, be spelled in Czech and Slovak), and on all the Slovak sites, the name either refers to the Slavic God or Slovenia’s highest mountain.

We have been scamming the general public of the World for too long, I think we should throw in the towel and admit it… indeed, Slovaks and Slovenes are the same people.

Lol, Rasputin, Slovakia doesn’t have a mountain called Triglav. Here’s what Wikipedia says on the three peaks in its coat-of-arms though:"The three mountains/hills represent the three "little mountains" (actually mountain ranges) Tatra, Fatra and Mátra (the last one in Hungary now), which symbolized the northern mountainous part of the Kingdom of Hungary. This interpretation is provably the oldest and most frequent one – it can be traced back to the 16th century, but stems probably from the 15th century."However, Triglav supposedly really does look like it has three peaks when viewed from Bohinj.

lemuel is not that far off the point. i think we should just get over it and join with slovakia into one country. the name shouldn’t matter, nobody knows the difference as it is. think of the possibilities!

Excuse me folks. But as an Egyptian, I can only see that both Slovenes and Slovaks are trying to copy our Great pyramids.

Heh, very funny to read about my country within such a discussion. Slovakia doesnt have any Triglav and the symbol of three mountains is exactly as lemuel wrote - its about Tatra, Fatra, Matra. Slovenian Triglav really has 3 peak look.
    :)
