Slovenia Outfoxes Europe

slovenia firefox europe.jpg
You’ve got to be all mine, all mine, foxy.. Slovenia, here I come

Brian recently pointed out that Firefox is enormously popular here in Slovenia. According to a recent study,
Slovenia is one of the few countries on earth where Firefox is used by
more than 30% of internet users. In fact, only Finland tops Slovenia in
that regard. And they only do so by a scant 0.2 percentage points. The
picture above shows the percentage of Europeans using Firefox on a
given day. (Click here for a complete map of the continent.)

Slovenia is a full 15 percentage points above the European
average, and Europe is the continent where Firefox enjoys the strongest
support. The browser is also available in Slovene, of course. If you’ve never heard of it, I can strongly recommend it.

More about the Firefox study here.

I’m using Firefox and i have to say it is much much better that IE.
Better looking, faster and safer, no spyware or adware. But not all
sites support it so i still have to use IE sometimes, but that happens
    really rare.

Firefox is great! I really recommend it. The only way you can see
why it is so great is to try it yourself. And the best part are the
    extensions.
For those pages you want to view in Internet Explorer (or in IE rendering engine) you can use the extension "IE TAB". It renders IE pages within Firefox.

I seriously doubt these figures are true. It all depends on where you look for the stats to analyze and I’d be surprised if it were over 15%. And yes… I don’t like FF ;) I have yet to find a good enough reason to switch completely. I do use it occasionally but it’s simply because I’m dying to see what’s so great about it. So far it is nowhere near that status.

On my site the visitor FF usage was at 65% until I published the site on najdi.si . Now it’s about 13%.  I love FF and its extensions. Particularly Adblock, mapit! gmail, weatheralert and FoxyTunes.

Why is the map in French?

I know the numbers aren’t true. I also use FF by the way (so does our
whole company, IE is forbidden) but I happen to work for a website (I’m
not naming it), which also measures the use of browsers. By our
calculations FF is currently at about 10%. But it’s still a high
number. I think the numbers for other countries are also too high. For
Croatia I know they are. In reality the majority of internet users are
not really very advanced. More than 70% have never deleted their
cookies (they probably don’t even know what they are).

You can further leverage the power of Firefox by installing an
extension called Greasemonkey. Do it now (read more here: www.slate.com/id/2126908/). It allows you to go on to install
any number of tiny but powerful scripts that essentially allow you to
customize web pages; for example, add a "Delete" button to your Gmail
account, put pulldown menus on your Flickr page, ban all advertisements
(not just Flash) from, say, Boing Boing, and on and on. My favorite is
a script which turns every key into a hotkey, so on any webpage you
just highlight a word and then hit Control + G (for example) to Google
that word, or Control + D to look it up in Free Dictionary (in new tabs, of course!) The
possibilities are endless, and it’s easy to do. Firefox, especially
with Greasemonkey’s mods, is the best browser out there. I’m happy to
    hear that Slovenia realizes this.

I have had Firefox a long time, I suppose when I maanage to move to
Sarajevo I will be one of a highly elite club running Firefox. That map suketh btw. No country is the right size or proportion. I’m calling the Map Police on those people!

The map is in French because the research was originally conducted by XiTi Monitor, a French company. I should have noted that the above statistics were done on a Sunday, when Firefox use is at its highest. IE still dominates the workplace. For what it’s worth, here are some stats from this site:Internet Explorer: 65%Firefox: 26%Safari: 3%Opera: 2%Other: 4%
