The Slovenian newspaper Dnevnik recently published a story claiming that one of the melodies on the new U2 album, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, was similar (if not identical) to a song written thirteen years ago by Zoran Predin. The U2 song in question is City of Blinding Lights; the Predin song is Okupatorka, a 30-second clip of which can be heard here.

I asked internationally renowned DJ, Nik Å mon, if he could mix them together. After a heroic struggle, he sent back an e-mail saying:

"The
city of blinding lights has 139 bpm, so I had to speed it up for 37 bpm
but I preserved the pitch of the track, so the tone height is the same
as the original."

I have no idea what he’s talking about, but here is the odd-sounding result:

U2 vs. LaÄ?ni Franz — The City of Blinding Occupiers

(Thanks to Martinovanje, Vlasta and especially Mr. Å mon!)
