To
commemorate the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War,
two dozen photographers from almost 20 countries contributed a ton of full-screen QTVR virtual
panoramas of historically significant places. The result: Panoramas of WW2 European Landmarks 1945-2005. It allows you to see full-screen 360 views of places like El Alamein, Auschwitz-Birkenau, and the recently finished Berlin Holocaust memorial.

Slovenia is also covered, thanks to the great and tireless BoĊĦtjan Burger. (Previous appearance here.) Two of his excellent Ljubljana panoramas
mix old photographs of the occupation of the city with its present-day
appearance. It’s a jarring effect. He also has panoramas for bombed-out
Maribor, a famous partisan hospital in Cerkno, and the deportation camp in Brestanica.

Altogether it’s a great site and a wonderful project.

Note: You’ll need Quicktime to view the panoramas.
