The Taunting Bus

ljubljana bus.jpg

An advertisement on a bus in Ljubljana.

This ad by retailer Mercator says: "Did you miss the bus? No problem. Running is healthy."

It’s
funny — unless of course you actually do miss the bus. In that case
the taunting message might fill you with blinding rage.

(Thanks Irvi!)

I call this negative advertising. It’s like Mercator wants to scare the customers away with this patronizing message.

Patronizing or not, I think it is scarring that Slovenes are filled with blinding rage by a joke. Anyway, I think it is a funny ad. It puts things in perspective when you have missed the bus.

Well, I can’t speak for all Slovenes but I go into a blinding rage over anything. Even too much fun makes me furious. I’m like this guy, except angrier and for real.

If I really had missed this bus, I would run after it joyfully aware
of the benefits of cardiovascular exercise (thanks to Mercator’s
message). Then, when I caught up to the bus, rather than boarding it, I
would stuff a krompir into the tailpipe. This is why you should always carry a potato.

At least the buses here are pretty frequent, even the ones with
little circulation. Back in Montreal most buses were each hour, except
for the really intense ones. Nice ad though.

On the lower left of tha sign, the words "Zdravo Zivljenje" are
posted.  That translates to "Good (or Healthy) Living", doesn’t
it?  Is this whole ad possibly Mercator’s self-destructive way of
letting you know public transportation won’t be around much
longer?   Perhaps a hint to getr with it and re-learn the
magic of Power Walking? As regards sgazetti’s  hint of
packing a potato when out and about, I’d opt for a banana
instead.  Easier to explain if you’re caught with it and certainly
easier to insert in a bus’ exhaust pipe as the skin is self-lubricating.

Running behind a bus, carrying either potato or banana is not healthy. You’ll inhale the toxic fumes. Just wait for the next bus ;-)

    especially running behind the fumes,etc,Beautiful!
but, wait a minute , is such a thing called pollution there?
i doubt it(=always in comparison to Athens…today i left my home wearing a white dress and i just realize now it looks sort of creme,to grey…) :P

    niccolo:
uuuh you are lucky! here the next bus equals you will definitely lose your job, class, date, whatever, (since it will come,at least 45 min late), or you take a killer-taxi which means that you must try not to fight with the driver because where you want to go is not towards the same destination that the tyrant (=greek taxi drivers) would like to go…(why? dunno…X-Files)

my bike always waits for meThere are rumours that Zlatko
Zahovic once ran after a bus. Unfortunately there was no such ad at the
time, so he decided he’ll never do it again.Ljubljana is now much (well, noticeably) better than it was let’s say 20 years ago.In Salonica taxi is also easier, as basically it can go just east or west along the main street…
