I am become new.1
As you probably noticed, this site has been redesigned, rejuvenated and generally spiffed up by the great people at AlienMelon. It’s a testament to their incredible skillz that they did such a beautiful job despite all my stupid suggestions. You see, it’s one thing to craft a nice webpage. But it’s quite another to do so when you have a heavy anchor like me on your brain, constantly trying to pull you down into the Hades of terrible ideas.
Michael: "I kind of like this website. Could we do something like this, except with everything written in Wingdings?"
AlienMelon: "Hmm. Great idea. Let’s think about it."
Whereupon, of course, they put my e-mail in the trash and clicked on "empty trash." In retrospect, thank God… although, on second thought, perhaps there’s still room for an embedded midi file or two — maybe taken from here. That’d be pretty nifty. (Note to self: Ask AlienMelon goons about the possibility of inserting some classic Slovenian polka music up in this.)
I first encountered the AlienMeloners (who are based in Kranj, the heart of historic Carniola) about a year ago. To be specific: on the night before Slovenia joined the European Union. I’ve been a fan since then. To take a look at some of their stuff visit: AlienMelon (the mothership) Blue Suburbia (Nathalie’s flashterpiece) and their recent work for the Jazz Kamp Kranj.
In short, I was very happy and grateful to have them lead the renovation works.
I never had any serious problems with my old host, Typepad. However, I was running a constant and massive bandwidth deficit over there. (According to their latest measurement, I was 1166% over my monthly bandwidth allotment.) They were very kind about not enforcing this, or penalizing me, but I realized that eventually something had to change. When the goons pointed out a new host that had cheaper rates and more space, the decision was made. Nevertheless, you will see that many of the revisions here were made to keep bandwidth down.
That being said, not everything is completely finished. I still have some things to do, and I still have to get comfortable using Moveable Type. In the meantime, please excuse any oddness. I wanted to put a bunch of animated under construction pictures all over the place, so that people would know that there are still things to do, but for some reason the guys at AlienMelon never answered my e-mail about that. Oh well.
(Many heartfelt thanks to Nathalie and Daniel, and everyone at AlienMelon!)

Your suggestions aren’t all that bad (they’re horrible). Sorry about not reading that e-mail sooner. You see, e-mails from our clients with certain words in them automatically get sent to /dev/null.
Take a look at this design, Michael. We can still do something like this http://www.seizurerobots.com if you wish. >:)
(With some turbo polka.)
Lovely new look!
I really like the awesome Ljubljana dragon. That is the one right? There is some story about virgins and those 2 dragons on the bridge but I can’t remember what it is right now.
the story goes…when a virgin crosses a bridge…they wiggle their tails.
Like the new text editor for comments?Testtesttestclick me
I love the new comment editor. I wish it had a special formatting tag for "blink" – there can never be enough blink. I suppose I can always do it manually.
And speaking of blinking, I wish I had seen that seizurerobots page earlier. It’s inspirational.
Now I know why the dragons on the bridge look so bored and statue like…guess there is not a big chance to get fresh girls, to whom you can teach something in Ljubljana! Where is the blogroll gone? The japanes dunno what robot website rules!!! Pity there is no turbofolk! Atomik Harmonik rules!C YA
How about this?
I liked it better before.
It moves a lot and looks empty.
This text editor thingy… is just annoying.
What’s with the cheesy animation of a guy with a paper bag over his head bopping up and down?
Otherwise, stuff looks good.
Pretty neat. But was it worth the anxiety of lacking Carniola relief on tax day? I don’t think so. BTW
I really liked the image of the fields and a church on top of the hill
that you had as your header image before, I do hope it’s part of the
new rotation.
It is so typical for Anglo-Saxonian to include weather information on the front page.
I love Slovenian polka music, BUT I had to majorly turn it down
as it is like 6 am in the gulag and the neighbors all have hangovers
and might shoot if they hear loud music at such an hour under the
impression it was one of those pimped out loud bass cars going by. If
I’m going to be that loud, well I prefer Macedonian bagpipes, so
they’ll KNOW who to blame! I love the new set up! It’s so cool!
Just a quick note to say that the switchover still isn’t completely done. Some people are still getting a 404 when they go to carniola.org. (Including me — I can’t access the page, or prepare any posts from my computer at home.) It will still take a while for the name to resolve completely; but it should be done soon. I pre-emptively thank everyone for their patience.
