Naš Tito’s Return

Nas_tito

Naš Tito = "Our Tito"

This anachronistic inscription appeared earlier this month on the Sabotina hill near Nova Gorica/Gorizia. The letters are made of white stone and are approximately 25 meters tall.

This particular phrase has been rearranged quite a few times by people with much more patience than I will ever possess. When Slovenia entered the EU, for example, it read naš SLO (our Slovenia)

(via Balkan-Scissors)

it looks like trying to match the Hollywood sign

There is a sign just outside of Petrovac that’s left over from before. It is a bunch of trees that have been planted to spell out TITO.

I never thought of it as the Hollywood sign. Funny, how that is.

I think it would be cool, if someone changed the Hollywood sign to “Got wood?”

Of course, these days you’d probably get shot in the process, since you would be destroying a symbol of the USA and all that.

crni, to be on the safe side I forwarded your message to the NSA. I also reported myself for laughing at “got wood.” You can’t be too safe these days.

Tinana: That made me think of this.

The tree comment also made my mind wander to that story, Michael. Too bad the Nazi’s abused such a positive symbol as the swastika as a sign for their horrible ideology…

it sounds a bit offensive to Italian people… in fact Tito ordered to kill thousands of them :( i hope it will be removed.

I hope the sign will be removed, ’cause it hurts may italians, expecially the citizens of the close Gorizia, but knowing the actual emotions of slovenians against italians (after 50 years it should be time to change), but I don’t think so. BTW, Tito was from Croatia (also hated by slovenians of today; mmm, slovenians hates everybody) , not Slovenia. But I prefered "Naš Fido" ;)

Knocked down NAS TITO from Petrovaradin,Novi Sad myself,in 1998,and the local partizans threatened to murder me(SUBNOR boys)…Well, after all these years I stil prefer fishing to revolutionary activities and definetely despise followers and copicats of any kind…leave hills, castles and squares as they are, adoration fetish and cult is for sick puppies, local kids do not have to watch it.Cedomir Stepic,Playa Dominical,Costa Rica

Is TITO in trees visible in Google Earth? I couldn’t find it. If it is, please post the coordinates. I remember seeing this a couple of times in the ’90s flying in and out of Beograd.
