Melodrom at a concert in Pekarna, Dec. 18, 2004. (Foto: KaÄ?a)
At the Slovenski radijski festival (Slovenian Radio Festival) last month, the award for the breast best song of 2004 went to the turbo-folk group Atomik Harmonik and their ubiquitous Brizgalna Brizga. (Not to rub it in or anything, but I told you so.)
My personal pick didn’t win. In fact, it didn’t even get nominated. It’s the gorgeously melancholic jazz tune September by Melodrom.
You know how people like to say that Italian is sexy? As in: "Ohmigod, if I ever learned a language, which I won’t because I can barely tie my own shoes unassisted, I think it would be Italian, because it’s like sexy and stuff!" Well, this song is proof positive that any language can be sexy, if it comes out of the right mouth. Give this a listen:
If you don’t think that’s sexy, I’ll give you 100 euros in cash, guaranteed, no questions asked.*

I’ve been wondering for a while about that song, thanks for the tip!
Mike, your cash is certainly safe!
Melodrom is excellent! Thanks for the sample. Atomic Harmonik is, well, not really my cup of tea
Even though I am a fan of both funk and dance.
It’s a cute tune, but I don’t hear any “jazz” in it. Sounds like an eastern-euro chanson type of song to me.
Eastern-euro chanson! So much unlike western-dollar pop! Ha!
It _is_ really good! Where can I buy a cd of Melodrom (Netherlands/Internet)?
Just got myself the CD in LJ. Finally!
Slovene is a beautiful language for songs.
That is lovely thanx for the link! I put it on LOUD and liked it.
I’m kind of fond of turbofolk. This didn’t really sound jazzy, but it is sexy sounding.
Any Slavic language rhymes well, which makes them sing better.
And I really wanted 100 euros so I could have a Fistful of Euros!
Sounds like a melancholic version of ‘The Girl from Ipanema’, and that’s NOT meant as an insult. People tend to think ‘Ipanema’ is just a popular jazz song, but, I think it’s incredibly sexy. I think the music reflects a sunny September mood very well. I can picture myself sitting at my favorite juice bar in Ljubljana near Preseren Trg, watching people (well, ok, women) walking by in the soft, afternoon September sun. Great song; love to hear more about them…
Oh, by the way : I hope they make this song available on iTunes, because over here (Belgium, remember? ;-)) we don’t get a lot of Slovene music over here (Slovene guitar players mailing to need help deciding which amp to buy, on the other hand… But that’s my day job, mhehe; glad to be of service). And this song is really worth downloading legally. If all their songs are of the same quality, I think I have a valid reason for another trip to Slovenija…
Thanks for the tip. This song RAWKS. Slovene sounds anything but sexy to me, yet this lady still brings out the non-existant sexuality in it. Well done. Definitely gonna buy the CD.
btw arf: isn’t The Girl From Ipanema a melancholy song in itself? It’s about a boy who feels overlooked by his muse. Even the melody is as somber as it gets. One of my alltime favourites.
should i send you my bank account? i prefer (not sure about spelling) ca$h …
