Meet Slovenia’s elite. Click to enlarge.

If you added up the salaries of Slovenia’s top 25 earners, you’d get a grand total of about five million euros. That’s roughly what one baseball player at the Boston Red Sox makes.

It’s not a fair comparison, of course, because there are significant differences in costs of living and what-not between the U.S. and Slovenia. Slovenia’s big 25 also have far more power and influence over other human lives than, say, an MLB shortstop. But still. It’s strange to think about it.

Looking through the list, it’s also worth noting that there’s only one female: Veronika Å keta of Kompas MTS. She clocks in at spot 19.

Here’s a look at the top five:

The Magnificent Five
Name Company Industry Annual Salary
MiloÅ¡ KovaÄ?iÄ? Krka Pharmaceutical 412.278 euros
Borut MokroviÄ? Terme ÄŒatež Tourism 407.692 euros
Zoran Janković Mercator Retail 359.336 euros
Janez LotriÄ? Petrol Oil 261.790 euros
Alojz Deželak Kolinska Food 230.108 euros

If these salaries look modest to you (especially in comparison with America’s CEOs) keep in mind that these are their gross annual salaries. After taxes, they probably bring home about 50% less.

(Thanks Mitja!)
