The Difference Between Slovenian and Serbian

Slovenec_in_srb_1
A Slovene (left) and a Serb (right) engage in a free exchange of ideas.

This great cartoon demonstrates a linguistic difference between Slovenian, which has very few homegrown obscenities, and Serbian, which has a lot.

The Slovene is saying “Tristo hudiÄ?ev!” (300 devils!), which is an authentic Slovenian curse. I won’t translate what the Serb is saying, but the little pictures above his head should explain most of it.

I love “300 devils!”. Very cute. I don’t swear much, but I have to remember to introduce this one into English.

Ah, the Slavic connection. I particularly liked “po spisku”. What does “mars” mean?

This is truly hilarious. Serb swearing ranks with some of the most colourful cursing in the world - gotta love it!
