The French site Admirable Design is currently displaying all 44 proposals for the Euro banknote. Since we already know that Robert Kalina’s design was eventually adopted, the interesting thing is to see the “euros that never were.”

Some of the rejected designs are funky, others are bland, and others border on insanity. (Paul McCartney on the 500-euro note?)

It’s well worth a visit.
