Natalija Verboten, Reloaded

"I’m proud of my breasts:" The new issue of Lady magazine.

There’s a new contender for the strangest magazine cover in Slovenian publishing history: the latest issue of Lady, which features singer Natalija Verboten pointing to her chest, with the words: "Ponosna sem na svoje prsi!" ("I’m proud of my breasts!") written underneath. This is, of course, a follow-up to the recent story by Nova, which suggested that Verboten’s trademark chest was actually "withered" and "empty."

In Lady’s cover story, Verboten angrily responds to the accusations:

Sama najbolje vem, kakÅ¡no telo imam, živim zdravo in vestno skrbim zase, in kakÅ¡ne so moje prsi. Nanje sem zelo ponosna, ker so lepe, zdrave, negovane, normalne. Saj veste, zame so najlepÅ¡e na svetu." (Translation: This was one of the lowest blows I’ve received in the past six months, ever since my career became very, very successful. These attacks come from the most yellow paper in the country, and this paper competes with itself in trying to hurt me the most. I would be really stupid and unfair to myself if I took them seriously. I know best what kind of body I have — I live healthy and take care of myself — and what kind of breasts I have. I’m very proud of them because they are beautiful, healthy, well taken care of, and normal. To me they’re the most beautiful in the world.)

The article includes pictures of Verboten in a bikini, in order to emphasize that everything is okay. So far, the reaction seems positive. In Ljubljana, for example, the SBI20 closed at a record-breaking high of 4.752 points.

    Natalija Verboten?
Is in these days the only topic you can find? Who cares about her breasts!
It’s funny all the fuss about it and in my opinion is not worth the ink. Newspapers really make drama from anything they can find. I never liked magazines like Lady anyway. Don’t they have anything better to do?

Hi pink: You’ve hit upon one of the reasons why this is so interesting — the sheer triviality of it. Even though there are plenty of more fascinating things happening in Slovenia right now, very few are as needlessly bizarre as two Slovenian magazines arguing about Natalija’s anatomy.

Natalija’s best thing surely aren’t her boobs.
