“In 1906, a young photochemist from Berlin traveled through the Balkans, an area that would become a major center of conflict in the Twentieth Century. Dr. Fritz Wentzel took his camera with him — a Mentor Graflex-type camera which allowed him to shoot spontaneous and expressive photographs of the Muslims, Turks and Christians. He returned to the area and shot more photographs through 1910. More than half a century later, his son, Volkmar Wentzel, rediscovered the original glass plate negatives.”
